 Visual Communications iii part 2

3D Mad Hatter Hat

As you can see my obssession with Alice in Wonderland has reached new Heights! I am fully aware that I have a problem that probably needs to be addressed by professional people. With that being said, I would like to move on to talking about more technical stuff.

I built the hat in Sketchup after many, many, many, many, many... many...many failed attempts at using Blender. I have not been able to master anything more than 3D text in Blender which doesn't much help you when you are determined to build a hat.

The jpegs that are shown here are images that I exported from photoshop after I finished the 3D sculpting in SketchUp. After the last asignment we did in 3D I learned that Sketchup does 3D modeling really well but not much else. All othere aspects such as animation, lighting, and backgrounds are easiest to do in photoshop.

I image wrapped the object with paint bucket tool in Sketchup after uploading my image into Sketchup as a texture.

I'm actually very excited by the way everything has turned out. My 3D modeling experience has been hands down a much better experience than what I had gone through the first go round.

Hat Animation

This video is the first Video of my Hat rotating as you can see I had a lot of difficulties controlling the object and it just ended up rolling all over the place but I gained better control in the second video that it posted.

I like this version of my hat animation a lot better.

Hat Ad

This is the first version of my hat magizine ad. There is something a little bit odd about it to be so I am going to try a different version of it to see it i like that one any better.

15 Second Spot

This is my original spot I made it through a mixure of photoshop and I movie.

This is my final 15 second spot. I am very happy with the way it turned out.

Dome Videos

The above video is the 2 min dome video that was presented to the class on finals day. Although both the sound and the video played, the video appared much darker on the dome screen than it is on a regular computer screen. I had a lot of issues with this video. There was orginally another film that was meant to be on the television screen in the video but because of some issues that I was having while trying to render the video, I had to scrap that video and start anew. The orginal video that should have been on the tv screen is include in the bloopers section of this blog page.

The above video was my first attempt at a dome video. It was meant to be a sort of promo video for the new Alice In Wonderland mivie.

Final Reflection

This semester was full of a lot of unexpected surprises and challenges. The dome video was definately public enemy number one for me. I don't like it when teachers give me open ended assignments. There are just way to many possibilities and apparently, I have some commitment issues that I will need to work out before capstone. I struggled with choose a subject to make my dome video on. And after I choose a topic, I struggled with how to exicute it. There are way to many options.

I did learn that I really like to do animations in photoshop. This semester even though I created all of my 3D work in Sketchup, I did all of my animating in photoshop. The rendering and the lighting/ staging of the objects was very easy. I was able to create an environment for my 3D objects and adjust to lighting.

I felt like a trailblazerr for a while all of the other students were very interested in learning how to animate in photoshop. I was definately glad to teach them. I also created both of my dome videos in photos. The only thing that I do not like about photoshop animation is how it handles texts. For the most part if I was going to have text in my video, I would  render my video then switch over to Imovie and text like I did with my spot.

Bloopers

I had soooooo.... many issues this semester that I felt that I needed to include a blooper section in this blog page. I was introduced to so many new things and I suffered from much lack of know how. The gallery bellow includes a few of those mishaps.

Bellow, I have included a link to the original website for my 3D product. In the beginning I was wanting to go a much more whimsical rout for my products branding. There was going to be a lot of bright colors and movement but...

... this particular vision was turn into a jumbled mess. It became less of a whimsical fantasy and more colorful nightmare. It was a mash up disaster between steam punk and Tim Burtin.

The video bellow is the original video that I did for my company's presentation. It does not have a voice over and it is in full color. The full color version is cool but it contrasts with the feel of my website and advertisment.

The bellow video was the original video that was supposed to play in the tv that was in my dome video. But because the video made the file really big, the video had alt of problems rendering.
