Vis Com ii Reflection
Spreads. Noooo more please. I’m just joking. Although I found spreads to be the least enjoyable this that I have done in Vis Com thus far, I appreciate them because they are challenging me to expand my designing skills. One of the spreads that I believe turned out particularly well is my “The secret of Feeling Full” spread. I think that when it has going for it is actually something that Matt constantly drilled into my head during Typography, focal point. Compositionally the piece has a place of interest and I think that is really helping it along. Also, I did try to go pretty “Gonzo” with the letter F’s size so I think that helped as well. I hope to be able to include the things that I learned while doing this spread into future designs.
Something that proved to be rather difficult for me in the beginning of the the semester was coming up with a cohesive concept for my early posters. When I look back over the many different versions of my Red Barn posters I realized that I did have a concept but is was not a strong concept because it was not very accessible to the consumer. By that I mean it simply was not catchy enough to stick and the design of the poster was only so so. I really think that I have drastically improved in regards to me poster concepts and design but I know that I still have some growing to do and I look forward to it.
Time manage certainly has improved from my experience in Vis Com 1. Now that I know the basics of the software, what it is capable of and what its not, I think that now I spend more time on brainstorming. I really need work on getting do a lot of ideas a lot quick. I total I have spent 52 hours of Vis Com 2 homework for the first half of the semester.
That glorious “Red Okay.” The greatest moments in class are when Rusty scribbles out that glorious “Red Okay.” I think that I am getting a better understanding of what it takes to receive Rusty’s blessing but of course I know I might get into trouble for saying that but I know that great photography, structure, concept and illustration don't hurt your chances of getting approved. Just saying.
