Visual Communication II: Part I

Mid-Term Portfolio

Vis Com ii Reflection

During this half of the semester we definately focused a lot more of our time on product design and construction. This was very difficult for my because I typically this in 2d as opposed to 3d. This definately had me this more about how to do a 360 design in contrast to the one sided poster and webs that we had worded a lot with in the first half of the semester.

I hate to admitt it be I rather enjoy creating packaging. It was one of the hardest dign challenges that I have ever faced but it was also the most rewarding. My favorite part is printing out that first mock up, cutting it our and then watching my creations come to life.

I also tried to have a bit of fun with my concepts this time around. I should to design this that interested me. As a college student I love to eat Ramen Noodle/ eat it out of necessity so, I thought I would be fun to create a Noodle box because it is something that I already come in contact with as it is. On a similar note, I choose to design beverage packaging based off of the novel Alice 's Adventures in Wonderland. I was at the same time writing a thesis paper in my intro to novel course about the book and wanted to stay in a very "Wonderland" state of mind. With that being said I was able to use my Vis Com ii curse to better my learning exprience in a course from another department.

Time management is always in issue for me. I'm a very indecisive by nature so I tend to have commitment issues when It comes to choosing a concept and following through with them. So, I found myself  legs deep in a project and wanting nothing to do with the design that I had created. As a result, I wuold find myself restarting and reworking things that should have already been finalized. I also learned that I have to be self accoutable because Rusty, although veryhelpful, provides rather ambiguous answers so that I can make decisions for myself. But of course, like anything else it is a learnig process and I certainly feel like I have learned a lot.
