Illustration: Part II

Illustration reflection

This Time around I definately tried my hand at digital artwork more so than I worked with traditional medias. My background is heavily routed in studio art. I currently have a minor in painting so it is safe to say that traditional media i something that I am already sending a lot of time with. I really wanted a change of pace and to learn something new so I choose to work digitally.

I have done a few digital sketches in the past but nothing with full colors and backgrounds. I found that with digital media I was better able to try on different colors and backgrouds to see which ones best fit the work. This is something that is very difficult to do with traditional media without having to start completely over in most cases.

A challenge that I faced with digital works losing the painterly feel. I like to see my brush strokes when I paint and build up layers of color. With Photoshop I found that My drawings were too smooth and had a flatness and lack of complexity to them.

I solved the problem by moving my drawings over to Manga Studio 5. This is the programe I used when I first started at digital painting and I likes that the was a larger varity of brushs and settings that allowed me to more easily get the effect that I wanted.
