Visual Communication III

3D Logo Design

3D design is definatly a major design challenge. It certainly is a departure from the work that we have done thus far with design. It is harder to think about a 360* than it is to work 2d. With that said, I do rather like my logo design.

The lion on the lion is there to represent Bob Marley who is my inspiration for all of my artway and my artist namesake. I like how the M interacts with the lion profile.

The hardest part of this process was interacting with the print center. My print job was rejected from the print center multiple times because the file would not open and I had no idea why. It was sooooo fustrating to have to constantly resubmit my file.

Obviously, I was able to get the logo printed in the end but AT WHAT COST. The cleaning process on this thing wasn't too bad. I mostly had to file down the back side of the logo.

3D Checker Piece

This design was the first of the designes that I made for 3D printing. I definitly regrete not making the design more orginal but it did take me quite a bit of time to familiarize myself with the softwear.

Presenetion

My presentation is from the point of view of a design company trying to promoto their business or get some other company to invest in them. I wanted the color scheme to match my company's website so that my company can have a cohesive look to it. I made the presentation on google docs.

Website

I made my website through wix.com just like my blog. I wanted the website to be modern and simple. The look of the website definitly complememts the subject matter seeing as my company is a young company and they deal specifically in 3D design. Wix has a feature that allows you to edit the moble verion of your website so converting my site to moble wasn't at all difficult.

 Logo Animation

This video is truest representation of the struggle bus. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to animate an object in Sketchup. I watched alot of videos on youtube about it before realizing that all of the youtubers were using a animation plug in. Although the plug is suuuuuper hard to control i did eventually figure  it out.

My logo doesn't have a design on the back of it so I didn't some the back of the logo. I zoomed into the logo instead. I though that it looked better than the version where I went 360* and there was no design on the back.

Checker Piece Animation

I made the video second. I wanted to try something different from what I did in the logo video. This time around I saved my checker piece as an obj and then opened it up in photoshop to make the animation there.

It was a million times easier to control photoshop's animation feature so I was able to make this video much more quickly. I edited the video on youtube to see what it would look like with music and a title. I rather like the end results.

Midterm Reflection

I have learned a lot about 3D design this semester. I learned the Sketchup as a design software will only take you so far, it has many limitations. I have started to explore new ways of making 3D designs such as Rhyno and Blender. Blender is definatly becoming my favorite 3D sofeware although I do hope to try Maya sometime in the near future. I am very interested in 3D character design so I've been spending a lot of my time watch youtube turorials on the subject matter and I have very recently started following along.

Learning the new 3D software has definitly been a major time commitment. I started off simply watching the videos but some of the videos wer so complex that I found that I was much to my binifit to pull up a side by side of the video turoral and the design program so that I could folow along.

I was very limited in my earlier 3D design but my inexperience and I a working to inprove my know of the 3D design programs so that I may use them in the future in more advanced ways. Overall, I am happy with the work that I have produced because a lot of it was a learning process. There are a lot of things being done this semester that I have never done before.

I have started using Blender to make my dome animation. I wanted to play with image wrapping 3D objects and that is turning out very well. The one issue that I am curently having is finding youtube videos dealing was dome design and how to make a file that is complatible with the dome software.
